Committee Changes
Morag Williamson and Jan Crawford have both left the committee due to the demands of their other commitments. We would like to thank them for all of their work for ATPS over the years. Pam Currie has been co-opted to replace Morag as Treasurer, so many thanks to her for taking on this role.
Teaching Psychology in Schools and Colleges
The ATPS, which is the Scottish branch of the ATP, is a support organisation for all teachers and lecturers of psychology in Scotland.
We seek to encourage co-operation, communication and good practice, to provide professional support, and to represent and promote the status of psychology teaching as a profession.
Report on teacher qualifications meeting
A round–table discussion on professional qualifications for psychology teachers was held on Saturday 6th February 2010 at Stirling University as part of the ATPS 9th Annual Conference. Chaired by Bridget Hanna of the British Psychological Society, participants included representatives of the Scottish Government, HMIE, education faculties and SQA, as well as the psychology teaching associations in Scotland (ATPS), the UK (ATP) and Europe (EFPTA). ATPS pressed the case for teaching qualifications (i.e. BEd and PGDE) in Psychology as a main subject on an equal footing with other major teaching subjects. The session was attended by an audience of ATPS members who were all practising teachers and lecturers in Psychology in Scottish schools and colleges.
